Chelsea’s Antonio Conte is close to lifting the Premier League title in his first season in England. He is already busy planning for life next season and is desperate for some attacking additions to add to the squad this summer. This has seen him linked with a number of star players from Europe recently.
And two players who are extensively linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge this summer are Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata. Both players are definitely going to switch clubs come the end of the season and Chelsea are one of the many clubs interested in signing either of the players. But who is a better fit at the Bridge?
From the outside, Lukaku, who was a part of the squad at the Bridge not so long ago seems to be the best option for Chelsea this summer. The Belgian striker has 49 goals in 101 appearances for the Merseyside outfit and is currently the top goal scorer in the domestic league in England with 21 goals to his name.
His experience in the Premier League will make him a better option than the Spanish star from Real Madrid but Morata is no mug.
At just 24 years of age, Morata has played at the highest level in Italy and Spain and is one of the most exciting and versatile players in Europe at the moment.
He has more than 100 domestic appearances in the two countries and is an experienced attacker who will improve the quality and add dynamism to the Chelsea attack. Morata has 13 goals and four assists in all competitions this season, most of them coming from the bench and he is also a productive option for Conte this summer.
The Blues have used the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian, and Pedro just behind the striker and though Conte regularly used a two man striking force in his time in Italy, he is yet to try that at the Bridge. But he might have to do it next season in Europe and in such a case, Morata will be a far better option.
Lukaku is a genuine striker who can lead the line for the Blues but with Diego Costa in fine form, Lukaku will find it hard to start games regularly at the club. Costa has been linked with an exit recently but he is helping them to the title and it is hard to see him quit the club just months later.
So with the Spaniard hogging one of the attacking positions, Lukaku can only start if Conte wants to go with two strikers up ahead, and this will also reduce the numbers in midfield, which might affect their game.
Morata, on the other hand, can not only play alongside Costa but is also capable of playing in a slightly deeper role where he can dictate the game at the edge of the box. He is a player who loves to link up with his teammates and with the likes of Hazard, Willian, Costa and Kante around him, Morata can turn into a top class player for Chelsea in years to come.
Though Costa and Lukaku is a dream combination, it is surely a waste of talent and Conte should refrain from spending big for such a cause. Who do you think Chelsea should spend on? Alvaro Morata or Romelu Lukaku?
