With newly appointed manager Pedro Caixinha’s first game in charge, third-placed Rangers FC were hoping for a similar one-sided encounter at Ibrox against relegation-threated Hamilton Academical who suffered a 6-0 thrashing two weeks back in Scottish Cup quarter-final. Rangers were uplifted following their 1-1 draw against arch rivals Celtic and focused on finishing their campaign on a high note. The Gers, as expected, had a cakewalk who managed a 4-0 win against the Accies.
Rangers FC Players Rated And Slated In Their Easy Win Against Hamilton Academical
Wes Foderingham: 7
Made a decent stop to deny Ali Crawford’s acrobatic effort during the first half. Was impressive with his punching from the Accies’ set-pieces.
James Tavernier: 8
Was impressive as always with his overlap runs and crosses. His beautifully placed low ball across for Hyndman helped his side to break the deadlock.
Danny Wilson: 7.5
The Accies could not offer much upfront, however, Wilson was alert and at the right place at the right time throughout 90 minutes.
Clint Hill: 8
The veteran scored his third goal in three games as he nodded in at the back post from Jon Toral’s free-kick on right.
Lee Wallace: 7.5
The skipper was defensively sound and whipped in a few decent crosses for Miller and Waghorn. However, he kept on playing one-two through the left-hand flank and chipped past the keeper from 10 yards to net the fourth of the afternoon for the Gers.
Jon Toral: 7
Returned to the squad after missing out the Old Firm derby and marked his appearance with an assist for Hill who doubled the lead in closing minutes of first half.
Jason Holt: 7.5
His failure to clear the ball caused his side conceding against Celtic. However, the Scottish youth international did well this afternoon as he builds the play up from midfield and broke Hamilton’s moves.
Emerson Hyndman: 8
The Bournemouth loanee is enjoying a great run of form as he came close to net from his thunderous strike against Celtic last weekend which was converted by Clint Hill from rebound to draw a late equaliser. The American broke the deadlock this afternoon as he poked home from close range after picking up Tavernier’s low cross.
Kenny Miller: 6.5
The 37-year old forward was fielded in a withdrawal role behind Waghorn who started as lone forward. Miller had an impressive first half as he kept on switching the play in both flanks via McKay and Hyndman. His low strike was saved by Accies custodian Gary Woods in the second half. Was subbed off and replaced by Harry Forrester for last few minutes.
Barrie McKay: 7
The youngster kept on posing threats from the left-hand flank using his pace, directness and dribbling. Was replaced by Joe Garner in the midway of the second half.
Martyn Waghorn: 8
Waghorn came close to find the net in the first half but his effort was parried wide by Woods. However, he marked his name in score-sheet as he slotted the spot-kick into the back of the net in the second half after being brought down inside the box by Massimo Donati. His back heel into Wallace’s path set the fourth goal of the game before being placed by Joe Dodoo.
Substitutes
Joe Garner: 5
He scored a second-half hat-trick a couple of weeks back in Rangers’ 6-0 win over Hamilton in Scottish Cup quarter-final. Was introduced for remaining 25 minutes. Did well to link up with his teammates, but failed to make any noteworthy contribution.
Joe Dodoo: 5
Came in place of Waghorn for last 15 minutes and combined well with fellow attackers.
Harry Forrester: NA
Came too late to warrant a rating.
