Tottenham Hotspur face an important and potentially tricky clash against Everton on Sunday as they look to remain relevant in terms of the title race. Spurs seem to have gotten over their dual Europe failure and after bearing the ignominy of getting knocked out twice, will look to put all their angst and effort in the league and we saw something similar in the first half against Stoke City last week where they blew the Potters away.
Pochettino will seek a somewhat similar start and although it will not be anywhere as easy, they still start as favourites. But the Argentine will be dealing with twin injuries to his first choice centre-backs and although it is not deemed to be too serious, this season hasn’t been kind with regard to injuries for both of them. He might move back to a 4-man backline in that case.
In their first meeting this season, Everton held them to a draw and both the teams have come a long way since then and both have impressed till now. Spurs might have a tough time in handling Lukaku with the Belgian showing his undoubtable power and precision in recent games and keeping a leash on him will be the top priority for the Lilywhites.
PREDICTED TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI VS EVERTON (4-2-3-1)
DEFENCE
Hugo Lloris will be in goal and as usual, the French stopper has been exceptional for them other than the game against Manchester City. He has saved a number of sure shot goals and has been a big part of their results over the last 2 years. Walker will be at right-back if Pochettino opts for a 4-man backline and will look to keep his marauding game going. If Vertonghen and Alderweireld do miss out, Wimmer and Dier will be the centre-back pairing. They have to be on top of their game in order to thwart Lukaku. In the continued absence of Rose, Davies will continue at left-back but he needs to raise his game a level or two.
MIDFIELD
The double pivot will consist of the impressive duo of Dembele and Wanyama. They have been fantastic till now and will look to carry on in the same vein. Dele Alli will be in the No.10 slot.
ATTACK
Eriksen will be the chief provider from the left-flank and on the opposite side, we are likely to see Son line up. Harry Kane will lead the attack and will look to keep his goal scoring exploits going.
