Rangers are due to make a trip to the Celtic Park today to lock horns against the table toppers and prospective invincible champions in the Ladbrokes Premiership in the shape of Celtic. The Gers are coming on the back of a 6-1 win against Hamilton Academical last weekend and will be a confident side when they line up against Celtic, despite having lost all their outings against the Bhoys this season.
More than three points, a win or even a commendable outing from any side in this fixture would hand them a psychological advantage going into the Scottish Cup semi-final next month when they are to face each other once again.
Here is our Rangers predicted line-up to face Brendan Rodgers’ troops.
Defence
Wes Foderingham has been the undisputed no. 1 goalkeeper for Rangers and is expected to start once again between the sticks against the Celts. Just ahead of Foderingham, it is likely that we would see the central defensive pairing of Danny Wilson and Clint Hill. Robert Kiernan is due to miss out on a couple of games owing to the suspension, so Wilson being played along with the 37-year-old veteran in the shape of Hill would make perfect sense.
In the right-back slot, James Tavernier should be in the starting line-up and his battle with Celtic’s left winger Scott Sinclair would be a treat to watch, whereas, on the left, Lee Wallace’s crucial role to inject defensive solidity would hold paramount importance.
Midfield
At the expense of the former Arsenal man Jon Toral, Andy Halliday is likely to be implemented in the defensive midfield zone and Jason Holt is expected to start from the central midfield. On the right wing, Martyn Waghorn is likely to start the proceedings and quite rightly so, for the Englishman is the second highest goal getter for the Gers with 5 goals and should play a pivotal role in his side’s attacking endeavours.
On the left wing, Barrie McKay should be expecting to get a nod to start in the hostile fixture as his creativity down the left flank should come handy for Rangers and Emerson Hyndman should complete the three-man midfield setup along with Halliday and Holt.
Attack
Club’s leading goalscorer Kenny Miller with 6 goals should be starting up front. Joe Garner scored a hat-trick in his previous match but will miss this game owing to his suspension. Nonetheless, Miller still has the calibre in him to lead his employers in a tough fixture against the Bhoys.
