Tottenham Hotspur will visit Turf Moor next to face Burnley as they return to the Premier League after the international break. The Lilywhites are the closest to league leaders to Chelsea in the Premier League table, and although unrealistic, Mauricio Pochettino’s men still has a shot at the title with nine games remaining.
And their next game could prove to be a huge stumbling block given how important it is for Spurs to win all the games from now on. Burnley have an exceptional home record this season where they have won 83% of their games so far and Tottenham have a good chance of faltering as has been the case with high scoring teams like Liverpool and Chelsea previously.
Although Spurs had failed to net a single goal in their visit to Turf Moor back in 2015, they have managed to score at least two goals in the previous four of the five league matches against Burnley. Which should be an encouraging fact for Spurs going to the game.
Strongest Tottenham Hotspur XI vs Burnley
Defence
Hugo Lloris is expected to return to under the bar. The Frenchman has been one of the most impressive performers for Tottenham this season and in games like this when a sudden counter from the opponent could change the game, his concentration will be greatly needed.
The back three is expected to remain the same from the last game. Pochettino will have his reliable trio of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier taking the guard at the back. Their consistency has helped the others to go on the offensive in full throttle.
Ben Davies starts as the left wing-back with Kyle Walker on the other flank. Danny Rose is close to returning from his long-term knee injury soon (earlier next month), but he isn’t expected to feature in this game.
Midfield
The central midfield duo of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele is once again expected to start. Their synchronisation has given Pochettino a perfect balance of the offence and defence from the middle of the park from where the game is well orchestrated.
Attack
The two attacking midfielders, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, have been arguably the best players in the league this campaign. The duo has been directly involved with 20 goals and 14 assists this season so far, and now with their star striker Harry Kane out for long they have to take control of the ship.
Vincent Janssen has been down with the flu and even he recovers in time for the game, the boss is likely to start with Heung-Min Son as the centre forward.
