Manchester City are likely to undergo a summer of major exodus and subsequently some major incomings as well. Pep Guardiola hasn’t been able to stamp his style of play throughout the squad as a mixture of injury and the nature of the players has restricted the philosophy from being uniformly spread throughout. While players like Fernandinho and Stones have managed to adapt gradually, there have been players who have found it difficult to do so and will be moved on, mainly due to age as City cannot afford another year whiling away the season.
Pep has a list of targets and he will be hoping to secure the signature of a number of the players amongst those. While Financial Fair Play and basic logic doesn’t allow a complete overhaul, multiple signings are expected.
Let us take a look at how the City team will line up if Pep gets most of his targets to join in the summer.
DEFENCE
Bravo has been disappointing and is likely to be sold in the summer while Caballero might go back to being the cup keeper in light of his displays which might keep him at the club. Meanwhile, Benfica keeper Ederson might be a possible replacement and Pep reportedly has his eyes on him. He will be a welcome addition but will have a lot of pressure on him.
Bellerin has been always mentioned in the same breath when taking names of players City are interested in and if Wenger leaves in the summer, there is a high possibility that Bellerin will make a move and it can well be to Manchester City.
John Stones is Pep’s favourite but beside him, if Pep gets his way, we might see Bonucci in the coming season. He has been linked with City for a long time now and after slowly falling out of favour at Juventus might well make the move to City.
At left-back, there are a number of players touted to slot in but with the situation extremely unclear, we are going with Fernandinho due to his versatile nature although he shouldn’t be a permanent choice.
MIDFIELD
The centre of the field might not witness much change as it was the defence which was mostly in need of altering. A fit Gundogan will take up the role in the holding midfielder’s role. While Silva and De Bruyne will be the two slightly advanced midfielders.
ATTACK
The youthful trio of Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling will dominate City’s attack for a long time now and we see Sergio Aguero slowly take a back seat.
