Though not fighting for the Premier League title in his first season in England, Pep Guardiola has significantly improved the squad at the Etihad from the previous season but there are a few positions in the squad that need to be addressed and the manager has already started looking for quality additions this summer.
Out of the many names that are doing the rounds at the Etihad recently, one name that is dividing opinions in the fanbase of the club is Juventus star, Kingsley Coman.
Having moved to Bayern Munich from Turin a couple of years ago, the 20-year old is one of the most exciting players in the sport at the moment and it is understood that his contract with Bayern gives the German giants a chance to tie him up for the long term.
However, with Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa and Franck Ribery still going strong, Coman has found it hard to break into the first team at the Allianz Arena and could be tempted with a move to the Premier League. Chelsea are also interested in his signature but reports suggest that Guardiola is ready to pay €50m for his services this summer. But is Coman worth it? Is he the man Manchester City need this summer.
The Citizens are one of the top goal scorers in the domestic league this season and have arguably the most creative and dynamic attack among the best sides in England. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have all been superb this season while Nolito and Jesus Navas have acted as backups when needed.
The manager is desperate to add another attacker to his lineup to give Aguero a backup but has also been looking to improve the overall quality of the squad. This has seen him scout the French international for a move this summer.
Having made just 24 appearances in all competitions this season, Coman has been on the fringes of the first team and has just two goals and two assists to his name this season. But these returns do no justice to his ability.
Known for his dribbling and strength in possession, Coman is an accurate passer, even over the length of the field and is a player who has most attributes that will make him a hit in England. He has to work on his defensive discipline while his finishing can also improve but he is as exciting a winger as any at his age.
However coming at nothing less than €50m, Coman might not be the right man for City next season. The 20-year old is comfortable playing on the wing but Sane and Sterling are currently occupying those places at the Etihad. As already mentioned, Navas and Nolito are waiting in the ranks while Gabriel Jesus is also set to return next season, making this Manchester attack all the more attractive.
This leaves Coman with little chance of walking into the first team for City. Pep Guardiola was the man who bought Coman to Germany and he might be tempted to get back to England to work with him but at the moment, Coman is nothing more than a luxury signing.
The defence, the holding midfield, and the striker’s position will all need addressing this summer and Guardiola might have to improve his squad in those position before spending big on another potential star this summer. Do you think Manchester City need Kingsley Coman this summer?
