Sunderland might be reeling in the relegation zone but that doesn’t stop Jermain Defoe from scoring goals. The 34-year-old has bagged 14 goals in the Premier League so far, a far contrast from his team’s current performance. The Black Cats need to do something extraordinary to pull them out from the drop zone.
His devastating form has earned him a call-up to the England national team. Gareth Southgate has preferred to give the veteran hitman another chance to make use of this exceptional form. Defoe has been linked with a move out from the club with former Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce along with a number of other clubs keen to rope in the player. If Sunderland do get relegated this season, here are the list of three clubs who could entice the player.
West Ham United
The Hammers had been toying with the relegation zone once this season but are now in a better position. The departure of Dimitri Payet has let them down definitely. Andy Carroll has mostly being injured at crucial moments. The lanky striker has been struggling with his fitness. Bilic has often struggled to pick a fit striker and has used Michail Antonio in the striking position.
Another striker, Diafra Sakho has been sidelined for an unknown period and has left Bilic with a limited number of choices. West Ham created a lot of chances this season but the absence of a prolific goal scorer has been hurting them. With these goals, they would have been in a better position in the Premier League table. A bid for the 34-year-old might be in the offing when the transfer window opens in January.
Newcastle United
The Magpies are on the course to play in the Premier League. They were relegated last season but have bounced back and are currently topping the Championship table. Dwight Gayle has been the man in form for Newcastle. The 26-year-old has found the net 21 times this season. Benitez needs to add a proper backup as they are on their way to the Premier League where the season is far more intensified. Aleksandar Mitrovic has been playing the second fiddle to Gayle and has been far from impressive.
Crystal Palace
Christian Beneteke, the high-profile arrival from Liverpool, has failed to justify his price tag. The Belgian forward has bagged nine goals in the League so far. Big Sam only has two fit strikers at his disposal currently and any further injuries would be a disaster for them. Allardyce had the chance to reunite with the player in January but Sunderland were adamant not to let go their main scorer.
