Manchester United have had a topsy-turvy time this campaign and although the club invested a mammoth amount, first in a manager and then in the players, to get instant results, they will have to do with a League cup and at best another trophy in the form of the Europa League. As of now, it is imperative that Jose Mourinho’s team give themselves as much chance as possible to win the 2nd tier European competition as a Top 4 finish is looking increasingly difficult for the Red Devils.
After a couple of feeble attempts by the United hierarchy to keep the ethos of the club and the continuity intact with the appointment of David Moyes and Van Gaal, they decided to take the simultaneously easy and risky way out with the appointment of Jose Mourinho. He more or less guarantees success but there is the fear of a team without too much of a prospect in the long run and a couple of signings, namely Zlatan Ibrahimovic pointed towards something similar.
And while the Swede has delivered and his goals will come in handy in whatever United achieve this season, the fact of the matter is that he is unlikely to stay beyond this season which will mean they are back to square one and with Rooney nearing his end at Manchester United, there will be severe shortage of strikers and it is quite clear that the Portuguese needs to go in hard in the transfer window to secure the services of a high-profile striker.
And amongst a number of enticing prospects all over Europe, the super-prolific striker of Borussia Dortmund is someone every big team should take a look at.
The Gabon international is good with his feet and has the ability to get past opponents with quick dribbles and stepovers. He loves to take on defenders and thrives in one-on-one situations and is an adept finisher which his 30 goals in 30 games this season proves.
His pace and energy make him a dangerous candidate in times of a counterattack and he has already shown big match pedigree with goals in both Champions League games against Real Madrid.
Jose Mourinho might have gone a bit dour this season but his pedigree is undoubtable and much in the way players are preferring to play at City due to Pep Guardiola, the Portuguese has the charisma to pull off similar deals and even though Aubameyang dreams of Real Madrid, a bit of persuasion and convincing should be more than enough for the club to get his signature.
And with the level of competition existing in the Premier League right now, United and the likes can’t afford to while away any more seasons and proven quality is something they should be targeting.
