Rangers have been in all sorts of trouble so far this campaign, right from failing to provide any sort of competition to their arch rivals Celtic who are running away with the league title to Mark Warburton’s sudden departure midway into the season, thus leaving them in complete tatters.
After 27 outings in the Ladbrokes Premiership, the Gers are placed third in the league table with 46 points and are as many as 33 points behind Brendan Rodgers’ side, which perfectly sums up the mediocrity with which they have plied their trade this season.
With the contracts of many key players tossed up in the air, Rangers might have to suffer some blows next season as well if they fail to keep hold of them. Fellow Scottish Premiership outfits have already started doing their homework for the summer transfer window and are sniffing around the Ibrox Stadium to lure away some of the finest from the Light Blues’ ranks.
Apparently, it has been reported that Hibernian have their gaze fixed on one of the veteran Rangers player, Kenny Miller, and are plotting a move to bring him to the Easter Road.
Miller’s contract with Rangers is set to expire in the summer and owing to the conundrum existing with respect to their managerial post, the former Scottish international is yet to be handed an extension. Despite being 37-years old, Miller still has the edge in him and has been one of the stand-out performers this season, collecting 9 goals so far this campaign and thus, Neil Lennon’s aspiration to sign him makes perfect sense.
But then, if he is taken away, Rangers would suffer a considerable blow and would lose out on a player whose experience is simply unparalleled.
Rangers’ reluctance to offer him an enhanced contract coupled with the Hibs being interested makes the scenario an intriguing one. Miller has plied his trade for a host of top quality sides including Celtic, Derby County and Cardiff City and has shown this season that he is far from being done with.
Age might be a factor for Rangers’ disinterest but then, he is a quality player who can, not only aid the attacking prospects of the Cabbages but could also lend his experience to the youngsters of Hibernian. Nonetheless, Rangers would be the sole loser should Miller decide to make a move in the summer after being underappreciated for his efforts in front of the goal by the Glasgow based outfit.
