Everton failed to overturn a two-goal deficit and lost the game 3-2 after threatening to level scores in the dying minutes of the game. Harry Kane scored twice to give Tottenham a 2-0 lead before Lukaku pulled one back for Everton. Dele Alli extended Tottenham’s lead to two goals again only for Enner Valencia to score another a minute later. Everton failed to get a point from this game as they eventually succumbed to a 3-2 loss at the White Hart Lane.
Below are Everton’s individual player ratings:
Joel Robles:
Rating:6.5
Despite a fairly underwhelming game by the Everton defenders, the goalkeeper did well to stop Kane on two occasions as he was able to make two wonderful saves.
Seamus Coleman:
Rating:7
Coleman had a decent battle along with Tom Davies against Ben Davies but was often caught upfield which often allowed Davies space and time behind the right-back.
Ashley Williams:
Rating:6
Ashley Williams had a forgettable game as he was pressurised into an error which led to Tottenham’s second goal and he also failed to keep Tottenham quiet.
Funes Mori:
Rating:5.5
Funes Mori too had a dismal game and was fortunate to stay on the pitch after a challenge on Kane in the penalty box during a free-kick. His performance was full of errors at the back.
Leighton Baines:
Rating:7
Baines made quite a few runs forwards and was able to keep Kyle Walker quiet except for a penalty shout in the early minutes which was probably a correct decision on the part of the referee.
Idrissa Gueye:
Rating:6.5
Gueye got forward quite a lot but he failed to keep possession of the ball against Tottenham’s midfield pressure.
Morgan Schneiderlin:
Rating:5.5
Morgan Scheniderlin was culpable for conceding Tottenham’s second goal as he was pressurised into making an erroneous backpass. He also failed to impress in the midfield duels and was also quite rash.
Gareth Barry:
Rating:6
Gareth Barry gave Harry Kane too much space for the first goal and was guilty of not closing him down quickly enough despite knowing the threat the 23-year-old possessed.
Tom Davies:
Rating:7
Davies started the game brightly but was inconsistent throughout the game. He made several good runs with the ball, though.
Romelu Lukaku:
Rating:7.5
Despite not getting decent deliveries, Lukaku made the most of whatever chances he got. He got Everton’s first goal with an excellent finish.
Substitutes:
James McCarthy:
Rating:7
His introduction gave Everton an immediate lift.
Kevin Mirallas:
Rating:6.5
Mirallas didn’t have much of an impact after coming on and got some shots off even though they didn’t lead to anything in terms of end-product.
Enner Valencia:
Rating:7
Valencia got the second goal for Everton which gave them the hope to find an equaliser.
