Chelsea are set to be active yet again this summer as Antonio Conte is planning to add some star players to his squad to compete with the best next season. Out of the many stars that have been linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge this summer, Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore is getting the fans excited.
According to reports from the Tuttomercatoweb, PSG are ready to listen to offers for Pastore this summer if Chelsea are ready to let star striker Diego Costa join the French club at the end of the season. Though they would not want to lose Costa, should Chelsea consider spending on Pastore? Should they bid what it takes to land him?
Born in Argentina, the 27-year old came into the spotlight in his time at Palermo where he cemented a place in a couple of seasons, putting in some consistent performances before sealing a place in the French side back in 2011. Since then, Pastore has been a constant presence in the first team at the Parc de Princes.
However, he has fallen down the pecking order under Unai Emery this season and has made just 14 appearances in all competitions for the French side. He still has two goals and eight assists to his name and could be a superb option for Chelsea.
Comfortable playing in a slightly deeper role, Pastore is eyed as a partner for N Golo Kante in the midfield at the Bridge. Though Nemanja Martic has been consistent, Pastore adds a driving edge to the squad going ahead that might help them beat the best in Europe.
An excellent passer of the ball, Pastore is a ball playing midfielder who can make things happen with the ball at his feet. His vision and eye for a path-breaking pass are right up there with the best while his dribbling abilities also make him a hard man to mark. At 6’ 2”, he is also an asset in the air and his strength and ability to hold the ball in crowded areas will make him a hit in England.
He is a genuine playmaker who can add mettle to the midfield and could play a perfect second fiddle to Kante at Chelsea. The French international and his energy cover half the ground for the Blues which will free Pastore to use the ball at his will.
He will not shy away from his defensive duties and will help Kante out at the back if needed but his addition to the squad at Chelsea will only make it stronger. With not much quality available anyway in the transfer market, Chelsea might not find a better option for their midfield next season.
