Chelsea maintained their domination in the Premier League as they shrugged off West Ham United with a 2-1 win. The win extends their lead to ten points over Tottenham Hotspur and they have now virtually sealed the title. Goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa brought home three valuable points from the London Stadium. Manuel Lanzini scored a late goal to provide some scare to the table toppers but the visitors held tight to their lead and secured a much-needed victory.
Here are the player ratings for Chelsea in what was a complete performance from the Blues.
Thibaut Courtois- 6/10
The Belgian custodian didn’t really have to make a save as West Ham rarely troubled the keeper. The only shot he conceded was the Manuel Lanzini goal in the stoppage time.
Marcos Alonso- 7/10
Probably the best Chelsea defender on the pitch. His marauding runs on the flanks often caused problems in the West Ham ranks. Along with attacking frequently, he also contributed well to the defence. Made a few vital interceptions to keep the Hammers’ attackers at bay.
Victor Moses- 7/10
The wingback was instrumental in the second half when West Ham gained possession a few times. He made a few crucial blocks to deny the opposition players.
Cesar Azpilicueta- 6/10
The Spanish international gave a pretty decent performance but was a bit shaky. He was partly responsible for the Lanzini goal as he failed to mark Ayew properly.
David Luiz- 6.5/10
Dealt with the aerial threat and kept Andy Carroll in his pocket. He played his part very enthusiastically.
Gary Cahill- 6.5/10
It was another good performance from the English man. His sudden burst of speed in the opponent’s half gave the Hammers’ players a few nervy moments.
N’Golo Kante- 7.5/10
As usual, the French midfielder brilliantly thwarted the West Ham attackers. Rose to the occasion excellently and influenced the match with a few important final tackles. Even the first goal was partially to his credit as he intercepted the ball and passed it to Eden Hazard.
Cesc Fabregas-5.5/10
Was a bit off colour in the Chelsea midfield. He was one of the weak links in the team.
Eden Hazard- 7.5/10
Scored the first goal for the away side. He interchanged the wings a few times with Pedro to give a tough time to the Hammers’ defenders. Was very swift with his dribbles and passing.
Pedro- 7/10
Could have scored a goal but his shot was saved by Randolph brilliantly.
Diego Costa-6/10
Scored an easy tap-in to double the lead for the Blues. His constant presence in and around the box kept the opposition defenders busy throughout the match.
SUBSTITUTES
Kurt Zouma- 6.5/10
Solid presence after he came on.
Matic- 6/10
Helped to shore up the midfield and was successful in his job.
Willian- 6/10
Could not attack too much with the focus on defending towards the end.
