Chelsea haven’t put a foot wrong this season. The Blue Brigade has kept on marching towards their target of winning the Premier League title with hardly any challenges on their way. Barring their loss to Tottenham Hotspur early in January this year, Antonio Conte’s men have been on an undefeated streak since September last year.
A lot has been said about their cake walk this season with no hectic schedule to disrupt the perfectly balanced and full-proofed squad, as the team aren’t a part of either the Champions League or the Europa League. Their early ousting from the EFL Cup has also helped their cause greatly in creating their 13 matches winning streak earlier this season.
However, things won’t remain the same next season, as Leicester City have been a glaring example of it, and with names like Diego Costa and Eden Hazard already linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge, Conte has a good knowledge regarding how deep in the waters he soon will be. And it seems like the Italian manager has already started making preparations to get things stacked up in case a crisis turns up.
According to reports, unhappy Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has an outside chance of joining Stamford Bridge this summer and that will mark a reunion with his former manager at Juventus. Morata’s long-term future at Santiago Bernabeu is in darkness as manager Zinedine Zidane has repeatedly chosen to play him as the second fiddle up front despite him being pretty impressive so far.
The 24-year-old has scored eight times in 16 appearances so far in La Liga out of which nine were from the bench. Morata scored the winning goal in Real Madrid’s comeback win over Villarreal on Sunday that helped Los Blancos keep their slim lead over arch rivals Barcelona with a game in hand.
After returning to Real Madrid from Juventus, where he went to the Champions League final in 2014-15 edition, the Atletico Madrid youth product has struggled to get into the starting XI with the attacking trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him.
As per reports, he feels he has been unfairly treated by Zidane and a move away from the club in the summer is pretty much possible. Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the player’s situation and could make a move for him. Conte had wanted to sign him last summer and it seems the Italian has maintained his interest in bringing Morata to the Premier League. Although his contract with Real ends in 2021, Chelsea have enough financial power to lure him via lucrative wages.
