Sarri’s men in Blue at Naples might have been determined to spoil the party but the ability of Zidane’s Real Madrid to find solutions came in handy again as Real Madrid scored three to replicate the scoreline of the first leg and advance to the quarters of the elite competition. Dries Merten’s early goal put Real Madrid in jeopardy but the second half was all about the away side as Sergio Ramos’s brace in a short time killed the tie and a late goal from Morata provided the icing on the cake.
The Best And Worst Real Madrid Players Rated In Their Incredible Win Over Napoli
GK: Keylor Navas – 6/10
Should have done better for the first goal as he conceded quite easily giving space to Mertens but he had a decent game overall. He had to be quick off the line and made tidy saves when called upon.
RB: Danny Carvajal – 7/10
Solid defensively but should work on his end product in the attacking sector as he fired over from close range.
CB: Sergio Ramos – 8.5/10
Always the man during crucial games! Scored a precise header to bring Real Madrid back in the game and forced an own goal with a thumping header just minutes later. The captain never fails when needed.
CB: Pepe – 7/10
His interceptions were really impressive today and his ball playing ability earned Real Madrid free kicks too. Decent performance and reliable.
LB: Marcelo – 7/10
Couldn’t venture out to attack as much as he would have liked but defensively he was sound and kept Callejon silent.
CM: Casemiro – 6/10
A very simple performance but neat and effective at the middle of the park.
CM: Toni Kroos – 7.5/10
He rarely lets anyone disrupt the flow of the game because he always ensures the flow is happening like he did today. His set piece ability is impressive and he provided assists for both the headers of Ramos.
CM: Luka Modric – 6/10
Kept the ball moving forward but nothing extraordinary apart from this. Very unlike him to be silent in big games.
RW: Gareth Bale – 6.5/10
What impressed tonight was his work rate and his efforts to track back and help out his side defensively. Otherwise, on the offence, he caused Ghulam several problems in the opening half.
LW: Cristiano Ronaldo – 7/10
Came really close to extending his champions league goal tally as he hit the bar in the first half. He played a key part in Morata’s goal which was Real Madrid’s third.
ST: Karim Benzema – 6/10
Nothing really charming about his play today. He got a couple of chances which weren’t put to use either. Mediocre!
