Considering the resources West Ham have at their disposal, they aren’t on the same pedestal as the top six English clubs are. However, the Hammers shouldn’t be a side loitering in the second half of the league chart either like the way they have been of late.
With 33 points from 29 games in the Premier League, West Ham United are placed 12th on the league table, so that makes them 19 points adrift of the Europa League spot which is currently held by Manchester United.
One of the paramount reasons for the mediocrity that has existed in Slaven Bilic’s side is their lack of brutal ruthlessness of banging goals and keeping their opponents on their back foot. They have accumulated merely 40 goals so far and the departure of Dimitri Payet has dented their credentials further.
The French superstar used to provide a cutting edge in the final third and owing to his absence, the London-based outfit do not really have a formidable attacker at the moment.
Bilic is very likely to dig for gold once the summer transfer window opens and more than anything else, an attacking midfielder of notable repute would be a top priority in his wish-list.
Frankly speaking, he must have started to look beyond this season already and apparently, it is reported that he has put Swansea City’s sensation, Gylfi Sigurdsson, on his radar with clean intentions of luring him away from the Liberty Stadium.
The 27-year-old has been in stunning form for the Swans this season, having scored 8 goals and registered 11 assists already. The league is far from over and his statistics seem likely to better and his average of 2.1 key passes every game is quite refreshing, to say the least.
Sigurdsson has proved his intrinsic value time and again for Paul Clement side and without any shadow of a doubt, West Ham United’s interest makes complete sense.
The Iceland international carves openings for his side, constructs spaces to let his teammates flock in and do the damage, has decent pace and is quite adept at making full use of dead balls as well and is arguably one of the best in the league.
Having plied his trade for Tottenham Hotspur before, he has the requisite Premier League experience as well and most importantly, his productivity has been thoroughly consistent and reliable. His calibre is simply unparalleled and Bilic must try to tempt Swansea City to sell their prized asset in the summer.
