West Ham United have experienced a full turn around this season. The Hammers started the season at the back of huge arrivals and big expectations, as the team were contending for the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Europa League and a top four finish after their strong finish last season.
But things changed soon with Slaven Bilic realising that his summer shopping had little to no potential except for Manuel Lanzini, the one that paid off well. But by then the Hammers were out of the EFL Cup, Europa League and the top four race. It took some crucial buys in the winter by Bilic to reshuffle the squad and put the team back into a hopeful position in the league table.
3 West Ham United Players Who Should Be Sold By Bilic In The Summer
Sofiane Feghouli
The former Valencia man has been little next to pathetic in his first season at West Ham United. Although he has been a bit effective in recent games, we don’t see Bilic keeping him next season.
Much like the flop forward Simone Zaza, Feghouli is another candidate to leave. The Algerian didn’t get a call for the African Cup of Nations owing to his poor display in the Premier League. The 27-year old has managed to score just twice in 15 league appearances so far and although his contract with the club runs till 2019, we expect the manager to cash in on him early.
Alvaro Arbeloa
His case been quite disappointing. Although everyone knew his peak time is pretty much gone and he would only be playing the role of an experienced backup in the full-back position, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid player has struggled to keep himself fit. He has managed only three league appearances this season so far in which the Hammers have conceded nine goals losing two and drawing one.
His contract expires this summer and Bilic is not expected to retain him. He is recovering from a calf injury now and isn’t expected to play much part in the remainder of West Ham United’s season. Except for Arbeloa, West Ham only have Sam Byram as a natural right-back and Bilic’s three at the back setup demands perfect wing backs, which the 34-year-old is unlikely to play effectively. Teams like Bournemouth and Middlesbrough, who are seriously short at the back could use a player like him if they survive relegation at the end of the season.
Adrian
Despite starting the season as Bilic’s number 1, the Spanish international has lost his place in the first team to his Irish teammate Darren Randolph. He has conceded 20 goals in 11 league games and was responsible for West Ham’s dismal first half to the season.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires this summer and we just don’t see the manager offering an extension.
