With the season coming to an end soon (relatively speaking), we decided to have a look at the players Pochettino might think that he no longer needs. Tottenham Hotspur are on course to having another good season and it is a good bet that Poch will try to further upgrade this Tottenham Hotspur team. Here at The 4th Official, we decided to have a look at the different options and give you our list of the 3 players.
3 Tottenham Hotspur Players Who Are Likely To Be Sold By Pochettino At The End Of The Season
Moussa Sissoko
The former Newcastle United central midfielder had arrived at White Hart Lane for a good amount last summer and was expected to be an integral part of Spurs’ midfield. But, the 27-year-old has failed to adapt himself to Pochettino’s setup and his style of play hasn’t quite blended with what the manager wants.
His reliability on brute strength and agility has helped him get only six starts in the Premier league and 10 appearances from the bench. He has mostly been deployed on the wings, but having players like Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son there, who have been absolutely magnificent from the wide areas, Sissoko has always been the second fiddle.
The French international has managed only two assists in his overall 30 appearances for the club so far, this season and although his contract expires in 2021, we expect the manager to sell him for a huge sum well before that.
Kevin Wimmer
It is always difficult to fight for a place in the first team as a centre-half when one has to compete with the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. And Kevin Wimmer’s performances has done further little to help his cause.
The Austrian international has managed only five league appearances under Pochettino, which shows how little faith the boss has in him. Spurs have spent lengthy spells without both Alderweireld and Vertonghen at different times and Pochettino decided to plug those spaces by deploying defensive midfielder Eric Dier at the back. Wimmer is no more even the second fiddle at White Hart Lane and at 24, he still has a lot of time left in him.
However, we expect him to move out in search for first team chances in other clubs though his contract with Spurs is till 2021.
Ben Davies
Danny Rose has arguably been Premier League’s best-left wing back so far this season. The amount of work rate and urgency he has brought to Spurs’ attack is unparalleled in England at the moment. And Ben Davies is unlikely to get enough chances to prove his mettle till Rose is in contention for a start.
The Swansea City youth product has managed only 11 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, out of which five were from the bench. And although he has been decent in passing the ball and holding on to it, it is difficult to beat Rose’s marauding run up and down the left flank.
To top that his recent displays have been lack lustrous as he last scored a goal and was a man of the match back in January in an FA Cup tie against Aston Villa.
