English Premier League was sent into red alert when one of the hottest midfield prospects across Europe, Franck Kessie, expressed his desire to play in England recently. The Atalanta midfielder’s destination preference has cancelled out some of the European supergiants, who had been hot on his heels.
However, in the Premier League, here are three clubs, who could use the Ivory Coast international’s services efficiently.
Manchester United- Jose Mourinho has been on the receiving end of criticism for bringing in Paul Pogba far more times than the French midfielder has been criticised for his displays. The record-breaking £89 million star has done little to justify his price tag and Mourinho might just have found the solution.
The towering player bossed the midfield in Juventus because the game there depended hugely on tactical know-how, where defenders waited for the perfect time to slide in; something that hasn’t been the case in England. The fast-paced Premier League has left Pogba breathless, where only his height and strength have been his rare assets. Mourinho is eyeing someone, who can take most of the workload from Pogba in the midfield leaving him with more time on the ball.
And Franck Kessie can do exactly that. The midfielder could dribble past his way from congested high pressing situations and play the ball high up the field. With someone like him alongside Pogba, United will get more mojo on the counter attacks.
Liverpool- Jurgen Klopp’s side can benefit hugely from the addition of someone like Kessie. Liverpool rely on high pressing attack where the only balanced link between the five attacking players and the four at the back is Jordan Henderson. And while the English midfielder has done his job brilliantly in smoothening the transition from defence to the offence, the manager has found it difficult to replace him now that he is injured.
Options like Emre Can and Lucas Leiva haven’t been up to the mark, and Kessie could make the Reds a potential title contender. Kessie’s physical attributes and vision could be immensely useful for them.
Chelsea- The Blue are definitely the most suited candidate to land the Ivory Coast international this summer. While both Manchester United and Liverpool cannot guarantee Kessie Champions League football just yet, Chelsea have almost walked away with the Premier League.
The 20-year-old could be a perfect fit for Antonio Conte’s midfield. N’Golo Kante’s outstanding displays at the middle of the park has made his teammates Matic and Fabregas look like semi-pros. And the Italian boss is expected to sell one of them in coming transfer window. Kessie’s addition alongside Kante can make Chelsea invincible.
