Jose Mourinho has set a number of targets in the summer to bolster his squad. A number of players including Wayne Rooney might leave the club and the Portuguese has already started chalking his plans for the future. United were pretty quiet in the winter transfer window despite being linked with a number of players. The Red Devils splurged a mammoth £150m in the last summer transfer window to bring Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly to Old Trafford but it seems that the gaffer isn’t happy with the squad balance. The owner has already given the go-ahead to spend big in the upcoming summer and we won’t be surprised if we witness some high profile players arriving at Old Trafford in the summer.
3 Players Manchester United should target in summer
Danny Drinkwater
This Manchester United academy product is right now plying his trade with Leicester City. The midfielder was one of the key players in Leicester City’s famous Premier League triumph last season. Drinkwater alongside N’Golo Kante pulled the strings in the middle of the park to give a much-needed solidity to the Foxes’ midfield.
Jose Mourinho wanted him at Manchester United to play alongside Paul Pogba and even was ready to launch a bid of £30m in January to lure the player but nothing materialised. Drinkwater signed a new contract worth £90,000k a week at Leicester City but should he choose to make a move, he will see a huge increase in his current wage to the tune of £150,000/week.
Antoine Griezmann
The French forward has been continuously linked with the Red Devils. Wayne Rooney will be allowed to leave if he demands an exit and that’s why Mourinho has been trying to secure the services of the Frenchman. United are ready to meet his £85m release clause but the player recently stated that right now he is not interested in leaving the Vicente Calderon.
The 25-year-old has been in prolific form since he joined from Real Sociedad in 2012. Barcelona are also reportedly interested in bringing the player to Nou Camp and United have to act fast if they really want the player plying his trade at Old Trafford.
Kostas Manolas
The AS Roma defender has emerged as one of the most sought after defenders in Europe and he could be the solution to Manchester United’s defensive woes.
Mourinho needs another central defender to partner Bailly and Chris Smalling in the United defence and a bid in the summer might tempt Roma to sell the player as they have to raise funds to clear the club’s financial problem.
