Leeds United manager Garry Monk is very focused before the really important match against Sheffield Wednesday. The two sides are scheduled to face each other in what is expected to be a mouth-watering fixture.
Only goal difference is separating the teams and Monk will be very eager to get back to winning ways. The Whites’ last win came against Nottingham Forest in the previous month and they have only accumulated 7 points out of a possible 15 in the last five matches.
They played out a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in the last match and Monk knows that a win in this match could provide a boost to their Championship campaign although there are 12 matches more to play.
This upcoming week could be a season-defining week as Leeds United have to face Birmingham City and Fulham and the latter have a match in hand although the Cottagers are six points adrift of fifth-placed Leeds.
Monk stated that he doesn’t want to lose his focus and want to take it match by match.
Monk said, “We are very much a game by game approach. Three points are the most important and we will try and fight as hard as we can for these three points. That’s the mentality we have, that’s the focus that we have and that’s how we focus the players –to give their maximum for each game ahead of them and not to focus on anything else that is out of your control.”
Sheffield Wednesday got a shock defeat at the hand of Brentford and Monk would want to capitalise on this chance to pile more pressure on the Owls. Both the teams are in contention of a playoff berth and if Leeds United manages to win their next three matches they might launch an attempt to even finish in the automatic promotion place.
Championship has been full of surprises for the last few years and who knows as current scenario is indicating Leeds might get an edge over their rivals.
