In what will shake the Rangers fans prior to what could have been a nice February weekend, Mark Warburton’s resignation has been accepted by the club. The gaffer handed in his resignation with assistant David Weir and head of recruitment, Frank McParland. There is still a bit of confusion as reports claim that Warburton isn’t aware of any such statement and believes he is still in charge of the club.
If the reports are eventually confirmed by the club, it could be a massive point in Rangers’ season who haven’t done all that badly after a four-year absence from the top-flight. Warburton was handed the reigns before last season and he oversaw a swift transition. From a team that faltered in the playoffs, Warburton’s side ran away with the title and even upset Celtic in the semi-final of the Cup game before losing in the final.
Warburton’s transfer strategy was pretty pragmatic as well. He made the best use of the transfer funds available and has put the club in a healthy position. There still need to fight tooth and nail to finish behind Celtic who are likely to win the title considering their lead at the top of the table. Considering his resources, he has (or had?!) done pretty well.
Things were never going to be easy in the top flight and Warburton faced quite a lot of criticism after Rangers’ slow start earlier this season. They picked up some momentum prior to the winter break but the break perhaps came at a wrong time as they have once again started slowly in the second half of the season.
The 4-1 hammering at the hands of Hearts put a lot of heat on Warburton’s shoulders and they could only manage a draw against Ross County in their subsequent game.
There is still no clarity regarding what has transpired. Perhaps the air will become less foggy in a few hours. In the meantime, you can read what the twitter sphere thought about the situation.
Mark Warburton has been in and out of Rangers more times in the last hour than my right foot was the last time I done the hokey cokey.

The good news is it’ll be easier to shift all of our shite players to Warburton’s next club for ten times what they’re worth now.
