Leeds United are in a pretty commanding position in the 2016-17 campaign of the Sky Bet Championship, as they are now really well poised for the play-off spots. Garry Monk has taken them to new heights as he has moulded a side good enough to be aiming to get back to the Premier League. However, the summer transfer window could see a few outgoings owing to them being surplus to the requirements of the club and here at T4O, we have listed, three such players.
Three Leeds United Players Who Could Leave In The Summer
1. Marcus Antonsson
As far as the striker’s role is concerned, it has been a one-way traffic as Chris Wood has almost singlehandedly made sure Leeds United are in the promotion battle. The New Zealand international, however, has turned a very able striker in the shape of Marcus Antonsson into a barely used resource, which has taken a toll on the Swedish’s goal-getting knack.
In 16 appearances, he could muster merely one goal ever since joining Leeds United from Kalmar in the summer. Monk is eyeing for a promotion at the end of this Championship campaign as well as for a striker in the summer, and the latter would dilute whatever chances Antonsson has. A loan deal is seemingly likely to be dished out for the 25-year-old in the summer, and let’s not ignore the chances of a sale as well.
2. Ross Turnbull
The Whites’ persistence of deputising Robert Green between the sticks as their no. 1 goalkeeper has yielded the requisite dividends, as the 37-year-old has garnered 12 clean sheets in 33 appearances, thus injecting a sense of humungous resilience at the backline.
However, his consistency has led to a harsh overlooking of Ross Turnbull, who is currently the third choice goalie of the Premier League hopefuls. His debut season was paralysed by injury, as a result of which Marco Silvestri has been opted as a deputy to Green by Monk which could very well see Turnbull making a move out of the Elland Road to secure regular game time, having played just one game since joining from Barnsley in 2015.
3. Toumani Diagouraga
Second fiddle to defensive midfielders which the former Swansea City boss has at his disposal, Toumani Diagouraga’s stature has only seen a downward trajectory of late. The 29-year-old has been handed merely one appearance this term by Monk and was given the green signal for a loan move to Ipswich Town in the January transfer window.
A permanent sale is expected with respect this Frenchman who is in a dire need to resurrect his career.
