Bristol City’s 2016-17 Sky Bet Championship season has been in complete tatters, with the Robins loitering helplessly in the lower end of the league table and flirting dangerously with the relegation zone. After their 2-1 loss at the Elland Road last week against Leeds United, they have been successful in gathering 32 points from 31 outings, and are separated from Wigan Athletic, who are placed in the dropout zone, by merely a couple of points.
In a season which has barely gone in the way of Lee Johnson, the former Barnsley manager does have some silver lining despite a season that was never theirs. With a major chunk of his players failing him, there has been some who have tried to turn the tide in favour of Bristol City and here are three such names.
Tammy Abraham
Brought on loan from Premier League side Chelsea, Tammy Abraham has been a revelation ever since his move to the Ashton Gate Stadium. A youngster, with sheer attacking prowess, eye-catching pace, trickery on the ball and ability to hold the game up front, the 19-year-old has mustered 18 goals in 30 appearances for Bristol City this term, apart from bagging 2 assists and creating as many as 29 chances so far this campaign.
He is a clinical finisher and the way he has gelled with the side is quite riveting, to be honest. Frankly speaking, his injury (which he sustained against Leeds United) could be a curse for the Robins for the upcoming fixtures.
Bobby Reid
Bristol City’s Bobby Reid has been compared to Tottenham Hotspur sensation Dele Alli owing to what he is and the potential he has shown as to what he could become in the near future.
There is a certain degree of calmness in Reid, for he knows when to launch forward to get into the opponents’ penalty box, has that edge with patience and perseverance and can ghost past defenders with his excellent pace and trickery. The talent in him has been harnessed well this time around and should be encouraged and applauded in equal measure.
Joe Bryan
The 23-year-old loves to jet forward, works neatly with the wingers, tracks back with intense grit and marks his men pretty well; all the traits that are desired from a modern-day full-back exist in him. Moreover, he is level-headed and never succumbs under pressure. This season has been good for him, for he has won 40 tackles with a success rate of 45%, made 56 interceptions, 60 clearances and 8 blocks apart from scoring a goal and creating 25 chances, which highlights how valuable he has been.
