In a season which might dictate the availability of Alex Neil beyond this season owing to the shadows cast over his future, Norwich City have undergone a rollercoaster ride in the Championship so far this season. Despite the loss of the sixth-seeded outfit in the shape of Sheffield Wednesday, the Canaries succumbed to Burton Albion and thus, failed to capitalize on the opportunity of closing the gap in the table.
Currently placed seventh on the league table, Neil’s outfit have been erratic in forking results in their favour or to bolster their credentials of getting back to the Premier League and are trailing the Owls by a seven-point deficit.
Despite the season being a turbulent one, the 35-year-old gaffer has had the luxury of having some players at his disposal who haven’t withered away and have delivered time and again in the ongoing season. Here are three such players who have left no stone unturned to ensure that the top tier days get regenerated at the Carrow Road.
1. Cameron Jerome
Cameron Jerome might divide opinion amongst the Norwich City faithful but one thing that has to be underlined is that he has really done well this season. The 30-year-old hitman has made 26 appearances so far, finding the back of the net on 11 occasions and registering 3 assists as well.
His performances haven’t been just about scoring goals, for he has been the pivot up front, bringing the midfielders into the equation in the final third, has cultivated scintillating levels of energy, been quite clinical and his work-rate has been simply outstanding, to say the least.
2. Wes Hoolahan
A player who had been severely underappreciated and overlooked early in the season, Wes Hoolahan has brought a cutting edge into the Canaries’ machinery. With the experience under his belt, he can guide his side in making the pushes necessary in the business end of the season in order to land inside the top six, and his contributions so far in scoring 3 crucial goals and getting 7 assists to his name are a testament to the quality of the midfielder.
3. Jacob Murphy
Norwich City’s think tank from the wide areas, the 21-year-old dynamic winger Jacob Murphy has been a serial threat to the opponents’ defense week in and week out. With 6 goals and as many assists to his name this term, a lot of top quality sides would queue up in the summer transfer window to get his signature and frankly speaking, he is someone who really deserves to be in the Premier League.
He makes driving runs on the flanks, is very agile, has shown excellent awareness on and off the ball and no wonders why his stocks are rising so fast after what he has been delivering.
