Sergio Aguero has been increasingly linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium of late after he was recently benched by manager Pep Guardiola. Although his prolific scoring has led Manchester City to numerous achievements in the last few years, one cannot deny the fact that he is back into the starting eleven only because Gabriel Jesus is out for three months with an injury.
Since joining City from Spanish side Atletico Madrid back in 2011, the Argentine superstar has scored 156 goals in 237 appearances. However, it doesn’t seem to be enough to impress manager Pep Guardiola, who was of the opinion that Aguero’s work rate hasn’t been sufficient and opted to start with Leroy Sane, Jesus and Raheem Sterling as the front three, benching the Argentine.
The recent developments have led many to believe that he is seeking a move back to Spain and La Liga leaders Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing a move for him this summer. Real Madrid are looking at an overhaul next season as the end of transfer ban would finally give them scope to do some business. Although Real Madrid are on a goal-scoring spree this season, Karim Benzema has clearly been inconsistent with age kicking in.
And the Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane will be looking to replace their star striker with an equally potent option. Aguero is simply lethal in front of the goal and with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale alongside him, Real Madrid will finally have a world-class trio to compete with Barcelona.
Although Alvaro Morata has shown great consistency this season scoring almost every time he comes off the bench, Zidane doesn’t seem to hand him a place in the first eleven as of yet, which has even prompted him to look elsewhere.
Aguero can score at will and he showed his potential recently in Manchester City’s high-scoring 5-3 win over AS Monaco in their Champions League knockout fixture, where the 28-year-old snatched a brace. Although he is still very much capable of leading City’s attack, Guardiola has recently stated that he is not sure of his future at the club.
There is no doubt that this would be a big money move with City assuring to squeezing out enough cash to ship in the likes of Dortmund’s Aubameyang or Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to replace Aguero. City would reportedly demand a fee of in the fee of £60million to part with the prolific forward. During his stint with Atletico in Spain, Aguero had scored a staggering 74 goals in 174 outings, which makes him someone, who can be thrown into the first team and expect to score right from the go.
