The story of Queens Park Rangers is a curious one, and of course, an intriguing one too. They have always been finding themselves in the doldrums of the top tier and the second tier, never upping their ante and have been stagnating themselves for quite some time now. With the mid-season transfer window done and dusted, do they have the necessary ammunition in their squad to steer them up the ladder? Let’s find out.
Kazenga LuaLua (7.5/10)
Brought to the Loftus Road on loan for until the end of the season from Brighton & Hove Albion, this deal makes a lot of sense. He might draw a lot of criticism but he is still a very decent footballer who has truckloads of experience under his belt. Ian Holloway hasn’t had the luxury of seeing his side find the back of the net very often, but now with LuaLua in his ranks, the wide man will create aplenty and not refrain from scoring as well.
Sean Goss (5.5/10)
It was about time for a permanent move elsewhere for the plethora of stars in Manchester United’s midfield was beyond the 21-year-old’s league. The youngster does have great potential but hasn’t yet lived up to the bills, so the move to QPR will be a make or break venture for him.
Luke Freeman (9/10)
Arguably the best deal which the Rs pulled off. The 24-year-old has been in the good books of the football fraternity and will play a crucial role in steadying QPR’s dwindling ship.
Freeman is a meticulously versatile player who can be engineered anywhere in the attacking zone, including the striker’s slot. What is so galvanising is the way he passes the ball around precisely and creates plenty of opportunities for his side.
Matt Smith (6.5/10)
Fulham’s forward line has thinned but on the other hand, QPR’s otherwise timorous and paltry forward line has bolstered with the addition of Smith. The towering striker is a decent signing who will enhance the attacking setup.
Pawel Wszolek (7/10)
The London-based outfit were prudent enough to sign Hellas Verona’s winger Wszolek for a permanent deal which will keep him with them until 2019. In 17 league appearances for Holloway’s side, he scored 3 goals, picked up 3 assists and also created 23 chances and no wonder Holloway has extended the sensational midfielder’s stay.
Ravel Morrison (5/10)
It is a signing based on intuition and belief from Holloway who has backed the 23-year old Morrison to deliver for his side as he struck a loan deal with Lazio. The former Manchester United trainee is a wasted talent of English football and QPR are riding on luck as they are all set to hand a fresh start to the youngster.
