The transfer ban can only keep Real Madrid on the leash until next summer and we expect some huge names flocking to Santiago Bernabeu next season. The Real Madrid first team is ageing and club president Florentino Perez is on the lookout to add fresh feet to instil a certain vibrancy and pace in their gameplay.
With the stars approaching the dusk of their career, Zidane has a huge task of replacing them slowly and efficaciously. Among the immediate positions, which need a fresh change, is that of the goalkeeper. The current first choice in the Madrid squad is Keylor Navas.
The 30-year-old Navas hasn’t been underwhelming by any means this season conceding only 11 goals in 13 games so far and his age pretty much allows him to play at his peak for the next three years at least. However, given the populist democracy that Real Madrid are, the club is in the search for a star player to take his position between the sticks and as per ESPN, they have targeted Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as their primary target next window.
The French international might have recently put pen to paper on a new deal at White Hart Lane but that won’t stop Los Blancos from making a move for him and given their lure in world football, their approach is expected to be more or less successful.
Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois was first on the radar in Real’s search for a world-class goalkeeper, however, any attempt to bring the Belgian to Santiago Bernabeu has remained a failure until now. Hence, a move for Lloris, who is at the same level with Courtois, would be much more realistic and easier option.
A youth product of OGC Nizza, Lloris has come up the ranks of clubs like OGC Nice, Olympique Lyon before joining Spurs in 2012. Since then, the goalie has conceded 176 goals in 157 games, which is an average of 1.12 per game. Now, with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Varane guarding the post, his impact could be massive. Since making his debut in 2008, Lloris has 85 caps for France so far.
Hugo Lloris earns in the region of £100,000 a week at Tottenham and Madrid will not have any difficulties in doubling the money if they are pursuing him next season. The Frenchman is at his peak and considering how consistent he has been for the North London outfit, there is a high chance that he’ll be a hit at Bernabeu.
