Rangers have started to wane a bit after a spectacular period prior to the winter break. They were recently humiliated by Hearts as they suffered a 4-1 drubbing (mind you, Hearts were terribly out of form then!) and had to satisfy themselves with merely a point at home against Ross County where it ended 1-1. It would be absolutely absurd to even consider any side to grab the Scottish Premiership silverware this term other than Celtic, so the Gers should be enthusiastic with the Scottish FA Cup.
Kenny Miller saved their blushes in their last outing in the Scottish Cup as they came from behind to outclass Motherwell with Miller scoring a brace. Greenock Morton shouldn’t be undervalued as they have lost just one game in their last nine outings and had defeated Falkirk. Without any shadow of a doubt, Rangers would want to better their last season’s output in this cup competition and clinch the silverware, but on Sunday, a nail-biting fixture is on the cards.
To grab the headlines for good reasons, Mark Warburton is likely to put forth a strong side at the Ibrox Stadium and here is our Rangers’ predicted line-up to face Morton.
Defence
The ever reliable Wes Foderingham is expected to start with the gloves between the sticks. At the heart of the defence, one might expect the resilient duo of Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson at the heart of their defence to break down Morton’s attacking moves this weekend. On the left-back slot, Lee Wallace should be the one to maraud whereas, on the right, Lee Hodson is likely to be deputised, thus forming a pack of four defenders at the back.
Midfield
This is the region which will play the key role in deciding as to which way the tides would pan out. The Teddy Bears were good in the middle against Motherwell and would expect something similar yet again. Warburton has been using a 4-3-3 formation and the deepest of the three midfielders is likely to be Andy Halliday with Jason Holt on the left and Jon Toral (who is on loan from Arsenal) on the right.
Attack
Kenny Miller would lead Rangers as the main striker up front with Barrie McKay on the left flank and Michael O’Halloran on the right. A lot of responsibilities would lie on the shoulders of their veteran forward in the shape of Miller who has bailed Rangers out of trouble for innumerable times.
