Liverpool finally managed to gather some momentum in the match against high-flying Tottenham Hotspur, in what had almost become a must-win match for them. The Reds have fallen away horribly since the turn of the year and along with getting knocked out of two cup competitions, also fell away from the title race and another loss would probably have seen them drop to the 6th spot which would have made Top 4 a very tough affair.
But inspired by Sadio Mane and some appalling Spurs defending, they managed to emerge 2-0 winners over Tottenham and now they are suddenly back into the thick of things which shows the tangible nature of the Premier League and the uncertainty associated with it. The Reds will be facing Leicester City, who have serious issues of their own and are in a muddle right now. A disastrous title defence is now on the brink of a full-blown conversion into a relegation dogfight and although a slightly favourable result in Europe might have given them some belief, Liverpool will definitely start as outright favourites.
But a match against a struggling and desperate side is never easy, especially when they have undoubted quality and given Liverpool’s track record this season in certain matches, they need to be vigilant and be focused on proceedings and notch up 3 valuable points.
PREDICTED LIVERPOOL XI VS LEICESTER CITY (4-3-3)
DEFENCE
Mignolet will be in goal and will be a confident player after keeping a clean sheet against Spurs. He will not have fond memories of Vardy from last season but will look to keep out the England striker. Clyne will continue in his right-back slot and he has been quietly effective all this while and would love to carry on in the same manner. Lovren and Lucas are rated as slight doubts but both should be declared fit by the time the match comes around. Either way one of them will start alongside Joel Matip. Milner will again be his calm and composed self at left-back.
MIDFIELD
Emre Can has now officially lost his starting berth and has been replaced by Wijnaldum once again. Henderson will be the deep lying player while Wijnaldum and the impressive Lallana will flank the captain.
ATTACK
The devastating trio looked to be once again getting back into the groove and although Sadio Mane stole the show, Liverpool need all 3 of them firing in unison. Coutinho will be on the left-flank while Firmino will go through the middle with Mane on the right.
