Manchester City failed to find a way past a resilient and confident Huddersfield Town as they were held to a 0-0 draw against the Championship high-flyers. Both the teams had made wholesale changes with City making 8 alterations to Huddersfield’s 7. The match failed to take off at all in the first half and what came as a surprise the home team were probably the team edging things out in the first half. City, led by a rejuvenated Aguero stepped on the gas in the opening exchanges after the break but the momentum faded away quickly and soon they found it hard to make any sort of impact as the game wore on. Even the introduction of Sane and De Bruyne was not enough and the match petered to a draw.
The fixture pile-up continues for City and the Sky Blues now have to play out a replay next week. But as of now, they have to shift their focus onto the all-important Champions League clash against the free-scoring Monaco side. Monaco are vying for the top spot with PSG, who smashed Barcelona in the first leg and Monaco would be looking to follow suit.
As of now, City are the only English team who are likely to make a foray into the latter rounds with Arsenal out of the picture and Leicester City having real issues dealing with the likes of Millwall.
Predicted 4-1-4-1 Manchester City Lineup Vs Monaco
DEFENCE
Willy Caballero is likely to make a return to the team after getting a rest against Huddersfield. Bravo was good against the Championship side but Willy hasn’t put a foot wrong since being re-instated in goal and is still the No.1. Sagna will be at right-back after making a late appearance from the bench. Stones and Otamendi are likely to be the centre-back pairing after keeping a clean sheet on the weekend. The immediate substitution of Kolarov showed his importance in the scheme of things and is likely to be at left-back.
MIDFIELD
Fernandinho might come into the holding midfielder’s position which will see Yaya Toure in a slightly more advanced role alongside Silva.
ATTACK
Leroy Sane is likely to be stationed on the left-hand side and his pace will come in handy for the Sky Blues. Sterling will be on the right-wing and will be reenergized after a weekend off. De Bruyne is likely to be played up front and it is likely the attacking players will be fluid in their positioning.
