Borussia Dortmund finally got back to winning ways, after thrashing Wolfsburg 3:0 in their home ground last week, despite the famous Yellow-wall being closed off in that match. This weekend, Thomas Tuchel’s team will travel to Schwarzwald Stadion to face midtable SC Freiburg. The away games have really been a problem for Dortmund this season, as all of their losses this term have come away from home. An upturn of fortune is almost necessary for Thomas Tuchel. Here is the predicted lineups for the black and yellows for the Freiburg game.
Goalkeeper: Roman Burki will be the man between the sticks for Dortmund. The Swiss goalkeeper finally managed the elusive clean sheet against Wolfsburg last week, barely being tested by Gomez and co. He will be hoping for a similar game against his former club this week.
Right Back: Lukasz Piszczek has been the most prolific defender in the Bundesliga this season, already finding the back of the net five times! The Polish defender will look to score more and help the team’s firepower.
Center Back(R): Matthias Ginter probably had his best game for Dortmund this season against Wolfsburg. He is one of two former Freiburg players expected to feature in the starting lineup this week.
Center Back(L): It will be interesting to see how Marc Bartra uses his passing skills against a very high pressing Freiburg side. His ball playing abilities will be put to the test.
Left Back: The ever-present Marcel Schmelzer will start as the left back. His great linkup play with Marco Reus on the far side will once again be key for Dortmund upfront.
Central Defensive Midfield: Providing security for the defense, will be Julian Weigl. The 21-year-old midfield sensation is already one of Germany’s brightest talents. His impressive passing ability and composure force the opposition to often mark him out of the game. Christian Streichs’ men are also expected to utilize the gameplan.
Right Midfield: Ousmane Dembele is expected to start as the right winger. The French International was deployed as a center attacking midfielder in his last two games, where he failed to weave his magic, completing just one dribble in those two games (his season average is around 5 per game!).
Center Attacking Midfield: Portuguese International Raphael Guerreiro will look to use his craft and guile in the middle to create chances. The new signing from FC Lorient has proved to be a steal for Dortmund so far. No doubt he will be an exciting feature for Saturday’s clash.
Left Midfield: New club captain Marco Reus will lead his team against Freiburg. The 27-year-old forward hasn’t been as effective after coming back from injury. He will be looking to get back on track versus Freiburg.
Striker: There can be none other than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang! The Gabonese International is currently the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 17 goals but currently having a bit of rough patch, failing to score any goals in his last two games. He will be important as Dortmund look to unlock the sturdy Freiburg defense.
