Garry Monk has expressed his enjoyment regarding managing Leeds United after he became the longest serving manager under owner Massimo Cellino. The 37-year-old has been at the helm of the club for 39 games.
Cellino was barred from football operations after he was found guilty of breaching some agent regulations. He was banned by the FA for one year and he sold fifty percent of his stake to Andrea Radrizzani.
Monk has been a revelation at Elland Road and guided the team to the fifth position in the Championship. He broke the record when the Whites got the better of Bristol City in the last match. Leeds United started the season very badly as they lost four matches out of the first six. But Monk injected a belief among the players as they bounced back from there and have overturned their season.
Monk’s excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed as Rangers are reportedly mulling an option to fill the vacant place at the managerial seat after Mark Warburton left the club recently.
Monk said, “I’ve discussed multiple times about the club, the history of it, the size of it and the challenge but also about the recent history as well. Recently there’s been a lot of suffering and not so much enjoyment. I wanted to take that challenge and put a smile back on our fans’ and players’ faces; to bring back more positivity and ultimately have a way of playing that everyone could enjoy.”
Well, well, well. I don’t know how you can derive anything apart from this being a huge slap to Rangers’ ambitions of prying Monk away to the Ibrox. The statement by itself might sound innocuous but look at the phasing like history and size and suffering. Boy, it seems as if he is taking a direct wedge at Rangers here given the same can be said about the Scottish club as well.
However, when he emphasizes Leeds United history as he did here, there cannot be any doubt about his loyalty. Great great banter if you are a Leeds United fan. However, maybe a bit of an unnecessary blow to Rangers here in the process? You decide.
The upcoming matches will be very important for the Whites as they are eyeing a promotion to the Premier League next season. Leeds United will take on Ipswich Town in the next match and can’t afford any further slip-ups as it would be a major blow to their promotion hopes.
