Leeds United manager Garry Monk has admitted that they could have signed Wigan forward Omar Bogle. Bogle made a deadline day transfer from Grimsby to Wigan.
Bogle signed for Wigan for a mere £1m and scored a brace on his full debut against Norwich City. Leeds had the chance to sign him but didn’t feel the need to rope in the attacker.
He bagged 19 goals for the League Two side this season which led to his transfer to the Championship. The attacker quashed all the critics by scoring twice against Norwich City. Leeds United currently plays with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Chris Wood spearheading the attack.
The New Zealand attacker is also having a dream season as he already netted 18 times this season. Had Bogle arrived at the Elland Road he would have been playing the second fiddle to Wood who is an automatic first choice.
Bogle is a very similar kind of striker to Chris Wood. With his sheer pace and dribbling, he can be a menace to opponent defenses and more importantly he could have turned into a reliable alternative for Wood when he goes through all the injury issues again (my personal opinion is that he could have been a better signing than Roofe). Although he is mainly left footed he can also be very dangerous with his other foot too.
Currently, Leeds are in the fray of a promotion to the Premier League and if they fail to do so they have to face the wrath of the supporters (ok, that may be a little hyperbolic). They spent £3m to bring Oxford United forward Kemar Roofe. Roofe had an inspiring start to his Leeds career as he scored his maiden goal against Aston Villa. But there has been a sense of growing concern among the supporters.
Garry Monk was very keen to add to his attacking options but went on to sign wingers Alfonso Pedraza and Modou Barrow, on loan from Villarreal and Swansea City respectively.
Leeds lost the last match against Huddersfield Town 2-1 but will be looking forward to restoring some pride when they host Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City later today.
