Wayne Rooney has played down the speculation and has made it clear he is going nowhere. Rooney has been linked with a move to China in the past few days.
He has been unable to nail down a place in the starting eleven. The 31-year-old has a contract till 2018 and has the option to extend it for a further year. Rooney is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and has missed United’s Europa League tie against St Etienne.
The Chinese transfer window closes next Tuesday a move is unlikely to happen. Rooney became the highest ever goal scorer for United when he scored in stoppage time against Stoke City. The England international denied the rumours and stated that he is staying at United.
“Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United,” declared the Reds’ record goalscorer.
“I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts.
“It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.”
