Manchester United are the frontrunners to secure a deal for Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij. United are believed to have a verbal agreement with the Dutch defender.
Lazio are reportedly willing to sell the player, thereby putting Manchester United on alert. The Dutch defender was also a primary target for Antonio Conte but a severe injury to the player forced Conte to change his plans.
A bid in the region of £30m would be enough to tempt Lazio to sell the player. He has been a regular for Lazio appearing in 15 Serie A games. United were on the verge of signing Victor Lindelof from Benfica but the deal didn’t materialise.
Mourinho had been linked with a number of defenders as he was searching a potential partner for Eric Bailly. But with Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones settling well in the heart of the United defence, he might go for the defender next summer.
