Leeds United returned to winning ways after a stutter against Cardiff City and considering the top two dropped points, the fans will be quite pleased with the midweek results. Garry Monk’s side have been pretty consistent this season and that is arguably the best the gaffer could have done in his first season in charge of the club.
The squad isn’t the loaded with quality or depth and credit must be given to Monk for his effective use of the resources. Leeds are six points clear of Norwich who are the immediate threat to the top 6 teams. The gap is good enough but considering the squad, Monk knows it’ll be close when the season ends.
With a new owner and money to spend in the summer, expect some new faces regardless of what happens in the race for promotion. Leeds need to keep their core and strengthen in other areas to give a proper push next season if they miss out or potentially strengthen for the top flight (if they do manage to sneak into the top flight!).
In a bid to add more depth and quality to their attack, they are being linked with Liverpool attacker Ryan Kent. He is currently on loan at Barnsley and has impressed in his short stint there so far. So much so that even Premier League side Bournemouth are interested in snapping him up.
Kent has been making some waves for the Liverpool youth sides and if you’d ask any Liverpool fan, he or she would speak highly of the lad. He has quite a lot of pace to burn, has a dribble or two up his sleeve and could be a pretty good flair player who can change games for Leeds United.
Predominantly a left winger, he can play behind the striker as well which means he’ll suit Monk’s philosophy as he likes to rotate his players. The likes of Roofe, Dallas and Doukara have been played in different positions and Kent has the ability to play out of his comfort zone.
The problem for Leeds is that Bournemouth are interested as well and considering they are in a good position and can offer top flight football, Leeds will be the underdogs in trying to strike a potential deal. Having said that, Monk can match Howe for grooming young attackers and perhaps a better chance of playing in the first team at Leeds could be used as leverage.
