Arsenal are going through real turmoil at the moment both on and off the pitch. While their title ambitions have shuddered once again this season as they lost to Chelsea last week, increasing the gap between the league leaders to 12 points, the fans have voiced their concerns with the current manager, Arsene Wenger, demanding his departure at the end of this season when his contract expires.
In all this crisis, the club faces another task of holding on to their star players, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. With the duo yet to sign new contracts, fans have grown wary of their future at the club. The more concerning has been that of the Chilean, whose frustration on the pitch has added to the worries.
The wide areas have remained a position in Arsenal with very less quality. The sole reason being that Wenger has always played his attacking midfielders on the wingers as and when needed. Hence, whether it’s Sanchez, or Theo Walcott, or Alex Iwobi, or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or even Aaron Ramsey on certain occasions, we have rarely seen quality crosses being whipped in from the counters.
And it seems like the club has identified the dilemma as according to reports, Arsenal are set for a summer battle with Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich for Atletico Madrid’s star winger Yannick Carrasco.
According to The Sun say Carrasco is unsettled at Atletico having fallen out with manager Diego Simeone and is looking for a new destination next summer. The news has alerted many top clubs across Europe as the 23-year-old Belgian is being monitored by a number of top European clubs and the Gunners are in the mix to land him.
The Arsenal manager is apparently an admirer of the winger, who has been phenomenal from the wings this season so far, scoring 10 goals and providing 2 assists in 32 games. He has completed 314 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 83%, of which 56% have forward passes.
The player has a massive £85m release clause, which could be a huge discouragement for the team as Arsenal are not known to splash that much cash. However, Atletico are moving into a new stadium in the summer and are unlikely to wait for someone to pay the astronomical fee. They could cash in on the player if they receive an offer of around £40million.
And given that Sanchez is continuously linked with a move away from the Emirates, Arsenal might just have to win the race against big teams to get the proper replacement for the Chilean.
