Diego Costa is set to be one of the highest paid players in the Premier League as Chelsea are considering offering him a new five-year contract. Costa is expected to earn a staggering £220,000 per week.
Costa was on the verge of an exit after he had a row with Antonio Conte. He was even dropped in the 3-0 win against Leicester City. The 28-year-old was the subject of a mega offer from Chinese club Tianjin Quanjin but the Blues succeeded in keeping the player.
He is set to replace Cesc Fabregas to be the highest paid player at Stamford Bridge. If he stays at the club for the contractual period he will be earning £57m and with add-ons, it could rise up to £65m. Costa has agreed on the terms and they could make the announcement anytime.
Antonio Conte said, “Is everything calm now? Yes. Diego is a really important player.
“The situation is very clear. He is very happy to stay with us. He is very happy to fight for the title.
“Will he stay here for a long time? Yes, I think so. I think so.
“I see him every day and I see his commitment, his behaviour is very involved in the team. He loves this club.”
