Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has claimed that despite not participating in Europe they don’t have any added advantage. He also added that rather it could actually be a hurdle for them.
Chelsea finished in a disappointing 10th position last season and don’t have any European distractions. With European football resuming from this month, Antonio Conte’s men will be trying to utilising the opportunity once again.
With Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City playing in Europe it would be easy for the West London club to solely concentrate on the Premier League. The Blues are currently leading the table and will be looking forward to their sixth consecutive win when they will visit Burnley.
The Belgian shot stopper said, “The players don’t want to relax.
“Everybody wants to play in Europe and if you’re in the rhythm of playing a game every three or four days, sometimes you can play better, even though it’s harder at the end of the season.
“We have a lot of people on the bench who want to play and maybe haven’t had as many minutes as they deserve, and if we had European football they would have played more minutes. The other year, when we were champions, we had European football so I don’t think it makes a big difference.”
