Burnley’s home form
Burnley’s fantastic home run continues as Sean Dyche’s men held Premier League leaders Chelsea at Turf Moor. One will be surprised to notice how far can a team come just by winning their home fixtures. The Clarets have now collected 29 points from their 14 home games, which is the fourth-best home record in the league after Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. They have managed to get just 1 point away from home so far at Old Trafford, out of their 11 away fixtures.
Burnley’s small home pitch has often helped the hosts to stay afoot of their opponents always. The Clarets clearly dominated the game against Chelsea on Sunday and could have been emerged victorious but nor Thibaut Courtois’ assured goalkeeping. The list of teams that have failed to beat Sean Dyche’s men at Turf Moor includes top clubs like Liverpool, Everton and now Chelsea among others.
Empty seats at Emirates. Has the revolution sparked?
Last week had been maddening for Arsenal fans. After the team’s loss to Chelsea previous weekend, Arsenal fans went on a rampage with a huge role played by Arsenal Fan TV. Further fuel was added to the fire when TV pundits barged in to have their say.
While ESPN’s Craig Burley called the Arsenal fans ‘spineless’ in his scathing attack and stated them to settle for ‘mediocrity’ every single year by being complacent about the club’s wrongdoings, former Manchester United player Garry Neville took Arsene Wenger’s side praising his philosophy. The outraged debate sure had its effect on Arsenal’s audience as Emirates reportedly saw more than 10, 000 empty seats as Arsenal took on Hull City on Saturday.
Although the official attendance was recorded as 59,692, just 663 short of full capacity, the large numbers of empty seats suggested that figure was some way off.
Klopp’s record against big teams
Liverpool managed to get eliminated from the FA Cup and EFL Cup in a matter of four days and losses to teams at the hands of Swansea City and Hull City made sure that the league title was now well out of their reach too. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men haven’t yet for once this season, faltered against the top five- Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.
We have always seen the Reds at their best against them, whether it’s a home fixture or away. And going by this form, Klopp could well see his team in the second spot in no time as they face both Arsenal and Manchester City in their next five fixtures. Mauricio Pochettino’s men had no answer to Liverpool’s attack and although Son and Kane had little windows of getting a goal in the early second half, the game was mostly controlled by Liverpool. The win takes them to 11 points behind Chelsea, who dropped two points against Burnley.
