Walter Mazzarri’s Watford sit comfortably mid-table as Bilic’s resurgent Hammers came knocking at the Vicarage. Watford were off to a flier as Kouyate’s foul on Zarate won a penalty and the men in yellow lead through Deeney’s precise penalty. West Ham had to chase and they dominated statistics and finally got a reward as Andre Ayew’s simple poke after the brilliance of Antonio rescued a point.
A draw doesn’t suit either team though as they really wanted to win to close the gap on the teams above them. The inconsistency of the two sides has been infuriating for the fans and the story was the same earlier today. We take a look at the Watford players and how they performed in the draw.
GK: Gomes – 7/10
He was resilient and hugely important makes wave after wave of saves. Stopped a sublime effort from Fonte as well. A terrific game for Gomes and no clean sheet would be the only negative.
RB: Janmaat – 6/10
Booked after a reckless challenge on Antonio. Nothing extraordinary after that. Didn’t make too many bursting runs, something he is usually known to do.
CB: Younes Kaboul – 7.5/10
Commanding display but got beat easily by Antonio for the equaliser. He’s been an asset for Watford with his physical attributes at the heart of the defence.
CB: Miguel Britos – 6/10
Wasted a crucial header late on and he was only decent all night.
LB: Jose Holebas – 6/10
Got booked again and he’s the most booked player this season. Did nothing to affect the game otherwise.
CM: Valon Behrami – 7/10
Swept attacks of Watford impressively and had a good game overall.
CM: Tom Cleverly – 6/10
Adds that creativity factor to the team but needs to improve on final ball delivery. Promising performance though and it’s safe to say he’s getting better with more game time.
CM: Etienne Capoue – 6/10
Good work rate and desire but hardly effective where needed the most today.
FW: M’Baye Niang – 5/10
Unimpressive. Wasn’t allowed to run at the defence and was often found clueless in the attacking third.
FW: Mauro Zarate – 8/10
Has had an amazing return to English football and impressive again today. He won the penalty as well for the lead.
FW: Troy Deeney – 6.5/10
Back amongst the goals with a confident dispatch of the penalty. Needs to keep the scoring form going.
