Ewood park hasn’t been the kindest of places for Manchester United but I am sure just like the chant, United fans would have woken up feeling fine as United were favourites heading into the tie. An early goal from Danny Graham brought the ground on its feet and voices boomed but United came from behind to snuff out the fire that could have caused a major upset. Two fantastic passes from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba were put to bed by Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic respectively as United cruised through to the next round.
The Best & The Worst Manchester United Players Rated In Their Comeback Win Vs Blackburn Rovers
1 – Gk: Sergio Romero – 7/10
Superb reflexes denied Blackburn an equalizer late on and he pulled off a save for the cameras off Emnes’ shot early. Reliable as usual!
2 – RB: Ashley Young – 6/10
Booked but decent going forward and tracking back. He was hardly troubled.
3 – CB: Chris Smalling – 5/10
Had a poor game and not up to his usual standards. Needs to improve considerably to cement his place in the lineup.
4 – CB: Marcos Rojo – 6/10
Tidy at the back but should have dealt with Emnes better.
5 – LB: Matteo Darmian – 6/10
His versatility is a huge boost for rotation but he too was mediocre. He wasn’t tested much until late in second half.
6 – CM: Michael Carrick – 6.5/10
Calm, composed and very neat. The veteran put in a typical performance of his type. He was subbed off later through.
7 – CM: Ander Herrera – 6.5/10
Not up to his usual display but he enjoyed the possession game and put in a respectable display. He needs to keep the consistency going in this hectic period.
8 – RM: Jesse Lingard – 6/10
Mediocre. Work rate was the only positives but nothing really convincing from him.
9 – CAM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7.5/10
Work rate was sublime as usual and he produced a gorgeous through ball to set up Rashford’s goal. What a signing!
10 – LM: Anthony Martial – 6.5/10
Silent in the game and not really effective today.
11 – ST: Marcus Rashford – 7/10
Kept his composure to slot in a goal and a much-needed goal that too! Consistency is the key because he will surely get more chances like these in the schedule ahead.
