Chelsea eventually overcame a fighting and resilient Swansea City side to notch up another win and continue on their seemingly inevitable title march. The omnipresent N’Golo Kante ensured that Swansea barely escaped their own half in the early moments and it was Fabregas who showed control and poise when he controlled a Pedro pass and poked the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0. Llorente hit back for Swansea before half-time as his header made It 1-1. But relentless Chelsea pressure finally broke the deadlock with Pedro firing in from outside the box.
Conte quickly replaced Pedro with Nemanja Matic but Chelsea didn’t stop attacking and, as legs tired and spaces opened, Eden Hazard crossed for Diego Costa to hammer in his 16th Premier League goal of the season. With Manchester City and Arsenal missing in action this weekend, Chelsea are sitting pretty at the top of the table and few would bet against them remaining there once the season ends.
Let us take a look at how the Chelsea players performed throughout the 90 minutes.
COURTOIS- 6.5/10
Couldn’t do much about the goal. But had slight handling issues at times today.
AZPILICUETA- 7/10
Solid display which could have been ruined had a penalty would have been given when the ball hit his hand in the 2nd half.
LUIZ- 6/10
Declared fit for the game but maybe his weakest game of the season. Struggled to concentrate and was loose in his approach today.
CAHILL- 6.5/10
Partly culpable for Llorente’s equaliser. Should have been stronger. Otherwise, a good display.
MOSES- 6.5/10
The sort of displays we have come to expect from him. Solid in defence and dribbling but lacking in the final ball.
ALONSO- 6.5/10
Good defensively but fell short by a distance while in attack.
KANTE- 7.5/10
Ran the show in midfield. Covered every blade of grass.
FABREGAS- 8.5/10
As per design, impressed when given an opportunity. Began the scoring and could have had more had it not been for the crossbar. Controlled the game from midfield.
PEDRO- 8/10
Solid display. Was an attacking threat. Scored the vital goal which put them in front during a difficult time.
HAZARD- 7.5/10
Looked back in form and was up to his old tricks with smart weaving runs and notched up a late assist. Denied a goal by Fabianski’s fine save.
COSTA- 7/10
Scored the 3rd goal but nothing noteworthy other than that.
SUBSTITUTES
MATIC- 6.5/10
Brought on as a defensive shield.
ZOUMA- NA/10
WILLIAN- NA/10
