Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund has once again proved their dominance in the Signal Iduna Park, even without the support of the famous Yellow Wall, which faced a one-game ban from DFB because of violation against the Leipzig supporters two weeks ago, as they comfortably beat Wolfsburg 3:0. For the second time this season, the Wolves have been simply outclassed by the Black and Yellows. In the Hinrunde, they suffered an even heavier 5:1 defeat in the Volkswagen Arena. Jeffrey Bruma’s moment of madness was followed by goals from Ousmane Dembele and Lukasz Piszczek in the second half.
The BEST And The WORST Borussia Dortmund Players Rated In Their Win Vs Wolfsburg
Roman Burki (7/10): It was a very quiet afternoon for the Swiss goalkeeper. The lack of offensive firepower left Roman Burki largely untroubled.
Lukasz Piszczek (9/10): The Polish defender has been turning on the gears in recent games. He was terrific on the flanks and also found himself on the scoresheet. He is currently the most prolific defender in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals already this season.
Matthias Ginter (8/10): Surprisingly, it was a great afternoon for Matthias Ginter, who finally managed a clean sheet. He read the danger of Mario Gomez pretty well and also ended up making the most passes than any other player on the field.
Marc Bartra (7.5/10): Complemented Matthias Ginter very well in defense. Had the measure of Yunus Malli and Daniel Didavi while also contributing to the build up play. If he can keep up his performance for the rest of the season, he might well become a huge hit for Borussia Dortmund.
Marcel Schmelzer (7.5/10): A decent game for the 29-year-old fullback, who combined well in the flanks and put in some delicious crosses. Also made the most number of interceptions for any Dortmund player.
Julian Weigl (7/10): Not the best of games for Julian Weigl, who got subbed off for Mikel Merino in the final phase of the game. Weigl made just 47 passes against Wolfsburg, way below his average.
Andre Schurrle (8/10): Provided threat for the opposition for the most period of the game. Linked up well with the likes of Marco Reus, Gonzalo Castro, and Aubameyang.
Gonzalo Castro (8/10): A smart outlet for Dortmund in the final third. He consistently dominated the defense using his movements and passes, performed well in half spaces, spraying some good balls in. Made a total of 77 touches, most of them coming in the Wolfsburg half.
Ousmane Dembele (6/10): It wasn’t actually a great game for the young French international. Apart from the goal, Dembele failed to influence the game, completing just one dribble and getting dispossessed six times(!). The goal itself, was due to a bit of luck, as his weak downward header took a deflection of a Wolfsburg defender, ultimately changing the trajectory of the ball.
Marco Reus (6.5/10): Not really a great game for Marco Reus. Failed to influence the game, at least, not as much as it was expected of him. However, his constant runs behind the defense, kept Wolfsburg busy all the time, until he was substituted in the second half.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (6/10): Another disastrous game for the Gabonese International, who could have at least found the net twice. Despite all his failed efforts, the 27 years put in a decent shift in attack and it seems as if his scoring duck isn’t gonna last long.
