Carlo Ancelotti marked his 1000th game as manager in fashion, as his Bayern Munich squadron put up as many as eight goals against a poor, hapless Hamburger SV. Arturo Vidal’s early goal was followed by a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick. David Alaba and Arjen Robben also found the net in the second half while youngster Kingsley Coman featured on as a sub and scored a brace as well. The win keeps Bayern Munich on the frontline for the Bundesliga title, as they are now five points clear of second-placed RB Leipzig.
The BEST And The WORST Bayern Munich Players Rated From Their Thumping Win Vs HSV
Manuel Neuer (7.5/10): Hamburger’s lack of offensive firepower meant, it was a comfortable and event-free evening for the German captain. Neuer has now kept the most number of clean sheet than any other goalkeeper in the Bundesliga.
Philip Lahm (8.5/10): Filip Kostic, the star winger of Hamburg, completely flopped against Bayern Munich, giving Lahm a lot of space in the wide areas and freeing him to join the attack with Arjen Robben as the duo looked very dangerous throughout the game.
Javi Martinez (7.5/10): A quiet game in defence for Javi Martinez. The Spanish centre-back was rarely tested by the opposition. He partnered well with Mats Hummels in defence, with his passing being particularly impressive.
Mats Hummels (7.5/10): Very good in the buildup play, Hummels had literally nothing to do on his defensive front, instead, the former Dortmund captain proved as a key part in Bayern Munich’s passing lanes and in the buildup as well.
David Alaba (8.5/10): Absolutely bombarded the left flank with his crossing and runs in behind the defence. He was looking very dangerous and was rewarded for his remarkable performance with a close-range tap in around the hour mark.
Arturo Vidal (8.5/10): Used his physique and athleticism to dominate the midfield, causing the likes of Thiago to thrive. His well-placed shot from the edge of the box set the tempo up for Bayern, as he also joined in with his sides’ several attacking moments.
Thiago Alcantara (8.5/10): Took part in most of Bayern’s key moments up front. Precise with his passes, Thiago operated the midfield incredibly well. He performed the role of transition player, starting a lot of attacks from deep.
Arjen Robben (9.5/10): Robben caused havoc for the Hamburg defence. His pinpoint runs in deep and ball playing skills were a handful for the opposition. The only thing that was missing was a goal, which he finally found at the end. Looked brilliant throughout the game.
Thomas Muller (9/10): It was a surprisingly amazing match for Thomas Muller. The German International put in a great shift as the number 10, often popping up in dangerous positions or using his clever movements to create space for his teammates. This is arguably Muller’s best performance this season as he had a part to play in three-quarters of Bayern Munich’s goals.
Douglas Costa (8.5/10): You know it’s going to be a miserable day when you have Douglas Costa and Arjen Robben bearing down at you at full speed, that’s just what happened for HSV fullbacks. Costa looked dangerous whenever he was on the ball and created a fair amount of chances in the final third.
Robert Lewandowski (10/10): Once again the Polish striker leads the frontline inexplicably well. Thanks to his hat trick this week, he is now the joint top scorer in the Bundesliga along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, both having scored 19 goals each. It will once again be interesting to see as to who wins the race for the torjagerkanone this campaign.
Substitutes
Kingsley Coman (8.5/10): Made a quick impact after coming on. His side-footed strike signalled Bayern’s dominance in the game before he doubled his scoring tally with a sweet volley. The brace will give Coman a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.
Renato Sanches (8/10): Came on for Robert Lewandowski for the final half an hour, as coach Carlo Ancelotti looked to settle for more composure and security following a series of goals. The new signing was solid in midfield.
Rafinha (7.5/10): As the game wore on, Lahm looked a bit jaded as a result, Rafinha replaced the Bayern captain with little over 20 left. The Brazilian right back followed the same path, dominating the right flank with the help of Arjen Robben.
