Alexis Sanchez
After a week of criticism from critics and fans alike, the Chilean fired Arsenal to a convincing victory over a revived Hull City side in Saturday’s early kick-off. It was his brace on either side of half-time that got Arsenal three valuable points as they reduced their 12 points gap with Chelsea to 10.
Although Sanchez’s first goal has been a source of controversy thereafter, as the ball struck his hand before going in the back of the net, one could hardly debate his tremendous work rate up front which brought about the goals. The second goal was from the spot, which was a result of an impeccable lobbed cross by the former Barcelona man to spot Lucas Perez in the far post. The 28-year-old kept his composure from the penalty spot taking his goal tally to 17 along with nine assists.
He is currently the highest goal scorer in the Premier League followed by Romelu Lukaku, Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Anthony Martial
The 21-year old French star announced his return with a brilliant display in Manchester United’s win over a resilient Watford side. Making his first start in the league since January 15, Martial got his name on the scoresheet after registering an assist on the half an hour mark.
The striker didn’t put a foot wrong earning the manager’s trust who decided to go with him ahead of Marcus Rashford and has more or less cemented a start in their next Europa League fixture. On a day when Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was at his absolute best, Martial’s individual brilliance was much needed. Injuries have repeatedly stalled his season so far with him making only 14 league appearances so far but he has still managed to score three times and register three assists.
Manolo Gabbiadini
Despite being a hot prospect this transfer window, the former Napoli forward was enduring a nightmarish season in Serie A. The 25-year-old had failed to make any mark in Italy even after the sale of Gonzalo Higuain cleared the way for him. He had managed only 3 goals in 13 appearances and given how West Ham’s new recruit Simone Zaza performed in the first half of the season, Southampton’s purchase was seen more as a panic buy, than anything else.
But, the Italian striker has started his career with a bang in London. He has already scored three goals in his two appearances under Puel and given his confidence, he looks likely to add to his tally considerably before the end of the season.
