Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes that the North London giants will offer a new contract to Arsene Wenger. The gaffer’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of this season.
Back to back defeat at the hands of Watford and Chelsea have put a question mark on Wenger’s future. Eddie Howe, Diego Simeone and Massimiliano Allegri have all been linked with the job.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League for the last 13 years with the last title coming in 2004. A large number of fans have shown their frustration after seeing the title challenge getting dashed for another year. Arsenal have been doing what they are famous for as they squandered a great start to the campaign.
Keown who was a part of the famous ‘Invincibles’ side, said, “I think if you look at it, Arsene Wenger will decide when he leaves the club. I believe he manages up and down within the club itself. They are going to want to have a run-up to a succession plan for a new manager and that will mean Arsene Wenger signing a new deal.
“I’m not sure if that sits completely well with the fans. But if you look at other situations, Manchester United losing Sir Alex Ferguson shows what can happen.
“I believe he will sign a new contract at that football club. It’s just really the announcement and when is the right time to make that announcement.”
