Moussa Sissoko has impressed very little in the rare chances he got under Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino. After a horrible start to the season, the French winger was more or less benched by the boss. However, now with Lamela injured for long-term, he has got another chance to prove himself, be it on a bit-part basis.
And according to reports, Italian giants AC Milan are working on a deal for the Tottenham midfielder now. His poor display has led many to believe that the boss might be tempted to let him go if the right amount comes. He moved to White Hart Lane in the summer from Newcastle United for a fee of £30m and Tottenham are expected to squeeze out that fee while offloading him.
According to Calciomercato, Milan are aware of the situation and are working on a move for him. The Italian club are ready to invest heavily this summer in transfer as it is hoped that the Chinese consortium Sino-Europe Sports will have completed their takeover.
Pochettino has more or less played a make-shift attack this season with Harry Kane as the only stable player in the centre-forward role. With Sissoko leaving, Pochettino will surely go for a potential replacement and here are 3 replacements he could be opting for.
Christian Pulisic- The Borussia Dortmund attacker has displayed attributes quite similar to the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Lennon and more. His ability to dribble past opponents in the attacking third makes him a brilliant option. The USA international could really be a big boost for Pochettino’s title challenge. Given the rise of young players from White Hart Lane over the years, Pulisic might fit in just perfectly on the wings, who can straight-away come in and make an impact. His small frame will, however, be a concern in the Premier League.
Yacine Brahimi- Brahimi has been a significant figure for FC Porto this season, especially in their Champions League campaign. He has scored three goals in nine appearances at the highest level and his game involves a similar style of outmuscling and outpacing his opponents on the flanks, which is quite similar to that of Sissoko. He has been dangerous from the wings, creating 12 chances and two assists. He has completed 153 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 81%, out of which 67% have been forward passes.
Alex Pritchard- An unlikely option, but could be the most suitable for the job. Sissoko has not been the first choice for Pochettino and with Eric Lamela returning from injury, that position will further drop down the order. This Norwich’s talented winger could come in as low as £8m.
The 23-year-old is a Tottenham Hotspur academy product, who moved to Championship just last summer. His perfect through passes and measured long shots have grabbed numerous eyeballs and he could be pretty effective from set-pieces.
