Leicester City have gone through a plethora of ups and downs in the last 2 years and it can be safely said they haven’t been through such a rollercoaster of emotions in their whole history. From a point of no return to a miraculous comeback under Nigel Pearson and ultimately staying in the Premier League to seeing their manager get fired and then the new gaffer win them the Premier League title along with a bunch of players, most of whom were infamous as rejects of other clubs. It was nothing short of a miracle and something which will go down as one of the top moments in footballing history.
But sadly, they failed to come up with a Plan B and in their quest of an unlikely title defence, they fell to pieces. In a realistic relegation fight now and without the wise Italian to guide them, the Foxes will have to conjure something special once again to stay in the League. It is back to square one for the reigning Champions and the rest of the season will be fascinating to watch as to how they redeem themselves and secure a respectable midtable finish.
But having said that, either way, it will be a summer of turmoil for them and we will see a number of exits taking place in the next transfer window. Let us take a look at 3 of the likeliest players to take a hike.
RIYAD MAHREZ
The Algerian came close to making an exit after the historic win and with a wondrous season behind him, was the subject of a lot of interest. But he was persuaded by the club to stay for the season and experience the Champions League and take it from that point onwards. But things have gone downhill ever since and his form along with the team’s levels has fallen drastically. But it is expected he will have his share of suitors and is odds on to leave.
LEONARDO ULLOA
The Argentine’s exit was blocked in controversial circumstances and it will likely result in a completely dormant season for the player. He is out of the first team picture and will be lying in wait for the summer transfer window to open.
He has been a good servant for them and even last to last year was involved in a number of crucial moments. His time is up at the King power and the striker will make an exit.
KASPER SCHMEICHEL
He missed a chunk of the season but he has kept his reputation intact. He has been phenomenal in the Champions League and has been one of their better performers. Schmeichel has also been subject to lots of speculation regarding his future and Leicester will be braced for a number of bids for him.
